Equality Information and Objectives

At Rudyard Kipling Primary School & Nursery, we are committed to promoting equality, inclusion and respect for everyone in our school community. Our school values of Kindness, Equality, Respect, Positivity and Teamwork guide the way we work with pupils, families, staff, governors and the wider community.

We welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty. We aim to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with dignity, and that our school is a place where all children and adults feel safe, valued, included and able to thrive.

In carrying out our work, we have due regard to the need to:
- eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
- advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
- foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

We do this through our curriculum, policies, pastoral support, behaviour approaches, safeguarding practice, staff training, assemblies, pupil voice, family engagement and the inclusive ethos of the school. We also consider equality when reviewing school policies, planning provision, making decisions and supporting individual pupils and families.

Our PSHE curriculum, wider curriculum and school values help pupils to learn about respect, diversity, fairness, healthy relationships, different beliefs and cultures, and life in modern Britain. We want all pupils to develop the knowledge, confidence and empathy they need to understand themselves and others, challenge prejudice and contribute positively to society.

We recognise that some pupils and families may face additional barriers or disadvantage. We are committed to identifying and reducing these barriers so that all pupils can access learning, take part fully in school life and achieve their best. This includes making reasonable adjustments where needed and working closely with families and external professionals to support individual needs.

Equality Information

We use a range of information to help us understand our school community and to support equality, including information about pupils’ needs, attendance, behaviour, achievement, participation, wellbeing, safeguarding, SEND, disadvantaged pupils, and feedback from pupils, parents, carers, staff and governors. We use this information carefully and sensitively to help us make informed decisions and improve provision for our pupils.

Our Equality Objectives

Our current equality objectives are:
1. To continue to promote an inclusive school culture where all pupils feel safe, valued and respected.
2. To ensure that all pupils, including those with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and pupils from different backgrounds, are supported to access the full curriculum and wider school opportunities.
3. To further develop pupils’ understanding of equality, diversity, respect and belonging through the curriculum, assemblies, pupil voice and wider school life.
4. To continue working with families, staff, governors and external partners to identify and reduce barriers to participation, achievement and wellbeing.

Review

We review our equality information annually and our equality objectives at least every four years. This information will be updated as part of our ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion and continuous improvement.
